Best known for her autobiographical work, Angelou published seven memoirs during her life. Through the stories of her extraordinary life, Angelou examined issues of race and identity as well as exploring family and community. Her book I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings is her best known book, but she is also renowned for reciting her poem “On the Pulse of Morning” at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993.
