Most Famous American Authors

I've spent my holiday break playing with watercolors and making maps. I dearly love maps. I always have. It's when I decided to take my map to another level that things got tricky.

How about a US map featuring the most famous author from each state? It sounded easy enough. Many of our states have one or two famous authors, and after a bit of research and talking with Chris, it was relatively easy to decide which author to feature.

It was New York that was a challenge. New York stymied me. Henry Miller, Herman Melville, Walt Whitman, Arthur Miller, J.D. Salinger? I love them all and then some. After much discussion and soul searching we decided on Salinger.

Next up, Massachusetts. I thought New York was tough. Jack Kerouac, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, Dr. Seuss, Emily Dickinson, Sylvia Plath? This was pure torture. How to choose? We landed on Plath. Her advancement of poetry and Pulitzer swayed me. However, I'm still unsure.

Now that the print is finished, I've decided it is half art and half conversation starter. Who would you choose for Massachusetts? Come on, think about it?
