Masks for Bookish Folks

Things are getting a little scary with regards to the pandemic in our home state. While West Virginia enjoyed low infection and transmission rates back in March, April, and May our curve has been getting steeper and steeper instead of flattening over the past few months. My two boys have been “in school” for two weeks now and haven’t left the house. Luckily, we had planned for a range of possibilities, so my kids are logging into classes from the comfort of my dining room. Now, for an epidemiologist, I’m a heck of a graphic artist - so I’m doing my best to pay attention to scientific authorities to keep myself and my family safe and healthy.

One non-negotiable for my family is that we wear masks when we leave the house. Now if we’re in the car with folks from our household, we go maskless until we get out of our car; but if we have to share close quarters with other folks or go into any place that isn’t our house, we mask up. We are a house divided when it comes to what kind of masks we prefer. My husband and youngest kiddo are disposable medical masks afficianados, myself and the older kid - we rock the double layer fabric masks and prefer the curved middle seam versus the accordion pleats at the sides. I actually like wearing a mask now - it reduces random chitchat and I haven’t had to wear lipstick in six months!

I have quite the collection of fabric masks, but I’ve been thinking about trying to find a few masks that speak to my bookish heart and support small businesses, so I headed to Etsy to find a variety of fun and fanciful masks that let everyone know there’s a book waiting for me at home. Knowing that our Echo-lit friends and followers are a smart, bookish lot; I thought I’d share some of my favorite Etsy mask finds. I’ve tried to show you a wide range of styles and fabrics so that you can find a fabulous mask that fits your personal preferences
